Explore the Rich History of Jews in Jazz

Join us for an enlightening lecture that delves into the vibrant world of jazz music—a genre that took hold at the turn of the 20th century. Emerging from the roots of blues and ragtime, jazz reigned supreme for over fifty years, and its evolution is a captivating story.

Discover the pivotal role Jews played in jazz as musicians, composers, lyricists, managers, and entrepreneurs. Despite being a small percentage of the population, their influence on the genre has been immense. The lecture will identify 128 individuals who have made significant contributions to jazz, accompanied by engaging narratives and video clips that illuminate their impact.

Our speaker, Laurence Seeff, brings a wealth of experience to this topic. With a background in statistics from Cardiff University, he spent a decade as a statistician at the International Energy Agency (OECD) in Paris before joining Bloomberg Financial Markets in London as its first European employee. After two decades in various roles, he became a lecturer in finance at BPP Professional Education.

In November 2020, Laurence and his wife, Sara, made Alyah to join their four children and now ten grandchildren. His passion for jazz spans over 50 years, sparked by his first encounter with Terry Lightfoot and his Jazzmen in a Bournemouth pub. Excitingly, Laurence’s upcoming book, ‘JEWS AND JAZZ,’ is set to be published in December 2025.

Don’t miss this opportunity to uncover the fascinating intersection of culture and music. Join us for an evening filled with history, stories, and the sounds of jazz!
