Finding Home in Tel Aviv: Street Art, Stories & Community
*Registration opens Friday May 9th*
About the Tour:
The hipster neighbourhood of Florentine is on the brink of change as gentrification of the neighbourhood is taking place.
Explore the graffiti and street art to see how it reflects Israeli society before this colourful open museum on the walls is taken down by new high rise apartments.
What stories do these images and words tell about what has happened in Israel since October 7? Who are the people going out at night and changing the face of the walls? What kind of stories do these images and words tell us about the people living in the neighbourhood? What role is gentrification playing?
We’ll dive deep into the local scene and the story of this area, share your interpretations, and gain an appreciation for this expressive form of art.
The tour also includes a visit to Café Otef, run by members of the Re’im Kibbutz. The café is dedicated to the memory of Dvir Karp, a chocolatier who was killed on October 7th while protecting his children. The café now serves as a hub for products from the south, cheese from Be'eri, honey, olive oil and more. Visit them to show support for their community resilience and ongoing recovery from trauma.
