The ESRA book Club will be discussing "My Little Wartime Library" by Kate Thompson.
Reading is never so comforting as in a time of fear. This uplifting and inspiring novel is based on the true story of a librarian who created a library and sanctuary in the London Bethnal Green tube station during WWII, offering shelter, solace and escape from the bombs falling on the city.
Truly creative, Clara Button and her friend Ruby devise ingenious ways of lending out as many books as they can– all, so that through the terrible years of the blitz, residents could switch off for a little while and escape reality between the pages of a book.
Please join us in enjoying this wonderful book together.
