Tour of Haifa - 1000 Stairs with Diana Barshaw

We begin at 9:30 with a walk along the promenade and Yeffe Nof Street to the Gadera Stairs. As we continue to Henrietta Szold Street and down the stairs to Beni Zion Hospital, we will be looking at the art displays along the route. Next, we will go down the Shemuel Stairs to Bar Giyora Street and continue on Shemuel stairs through Hillel Street, to Masada Street, where we will take a 30-minute break at any one of a number of cafes on Masada Street.
Our route continues past the Holocaust Museum on Kastel Street, past MadaTech Museum, on to Bialik Street, down to the Municipality, Omar el Khayam Street to the Haifa Court House, and over the bridge to the Rocket Building. We will walk past the Big Mosque and the Ottoman Clocktower.to the Carmelit and up to Mercaz Carmel.
We will be walking down 1000 stone steps. Please join us if you are certain you can physically manage this. (Don’t forget to bring your Rav Kav).

Dr. Diana Barshaw was a research scientist and professor in the field of behavior and ecology of marine animals from 1988 to 2004. Starting in 2005 she wrote a monthly column for the Jerusalem Post called ‘Wild Israel’ and a blog for the Times of Israel. On her website http://www.dianabarshaw.com/ she describes the Israel National Trail and has compiled a guide to hiking the trails of the Carmel Mountains. Diana has recently been certified as an Israeli Tour Guide.

ESRA trips are suitable for people in good health. Please come properly prepared with plenty of water, appropriate attire for the weather and good walking shoes. Advance registration required.
