In 2003, Joseph Gitler, an American immigrant, was troubled by the paradox of widespread food insecurity in Israel on the one hand and significant food waste on the other. In response, he began to collect food for distribution to needy families. He has expanded from the original one-man volunteer operation, and now the organization supplies surplus food to over 250 non-profit organizations for distribution.
However, as Joseph Gitler will explain in his talk there is still more to be done. He will be talking about the increased need in Israel as a result of the pandemic, the high cost of living etc.
Joseph Gitler has a bachelor’s degree from Yeshiva University and received his Juris Doctor degree from Fordham University. He resides in Ra’anana with his wife and their five children. He is Founder and Chairman of Leket. In addition, Joseph is a founding member of Ten Gav and Israel Gives, as well as an active board member of the Meir Medical Center, Camp Moshava Canada, Dualis, Mercaz Panim and Artists & Musicians for Israel. Joseph is also the Israeli representative for the Global Food Banking Network.
