Israel is often described as a country at war, yet we Anglos know that for most people life goes on as usual even when there's a big military operation somewhere. All the more so for a country as huge as Ukraine (larger than France). So, a curious and adventurous ESRA member from Haifa decided to visit recently (the more peaceful) Western Ukraine and its Jewish communities. This talk, accompanied by photos and stories, will tell how Ukraine looks nowadays to a Western visitor, how the Jews are doing and how Ukrainians are coping with those who fled and those who came back.

David Lisbona from London made Aliyah 50 years ago at the age of 24. He served in the IDF as an officer and spent most of his professional career in Hi-Tech. He retired early and spent 12 years involved in Jewish-Arab and Israeli-Palestinian reconciliation work. He is a passionate genealogist and amateur historian and likes to travel.

Refreshments will be served.
