Sunday 23 January

Look Up! – Ceiling Art
We will never reach the ceiling, the upper wall that often disappears from our sight. In this lecture we will look up to the famous Renaissance ceilings laden with scenes and figures. We will then continue throughout the history of art and reach the modern artists (such as Dali and the surrealists) to understand the shift in meaning that the ceilings were given. Finally, we will reach the intriguing ways in which contemporary artists used the ceilings - as a starting point for challenging installations made from diverse and new materials.
